Felting

Felting is a craft artwork in which the artisan uses either water or a needle and wool fibers such as sheep wool, alpaca, mohair, yak, etc. to produce a piece of art. This process takes raw wool or wool roving as well as other similar fibers, and turns it into realistic looking 3D animals, shapes, etc, or 2D products such as scarves, hats or wall art. To produce a piece of 3D or 2D felt art, you have to cause the hair or fibers to interlock with each other, creating a matted fabric or object. This can be accomplished by applying water and agitation or by physically tangling the wool using special barbed felting needles.

Linda Davis is the artisan behind all of the Farmland felted art pieces. She collects wool and other natural fibers from the animals at Davis Farmland and combines them with other specially dyed fibers to create “paintings” – which are extra special because they are made with products from our favorite Farmland animals, including many kinds of sheep, angora goats, highland cows, angora rabbits and even Peanut the Camel! Each piece is unique and absolutely one of a kind, and makes an incredibly special  souvenir for anyone who has gotten to know and love the amazing animals at Davis Farmland.
